Seymour hotel robbed during crime spree

Police continue to search for three men who held up a clerk at gunpoint early Thursday morning at a hotel on Seymour’s far east side.

That robbery was part of a crime spree that also included a car-jacking on Indianapolis’ far west side at about midnight Wednesday and the robbery of a Columbus gas station a short time after the one in Seymour, police report.

The search for the three males, who also are suspects in a car-jacking on the west side of Indianapolis, began when they fled on foot after the white Hummer H2 they were in crashed  near the Berkeley Common Apartments. That’s near Madison Avenue between Stop 12 and County Line roads on the southside of Indianapolis.

According to Seymour police, three armed men entered the Knights Inn Hotel at 207 N. Sandy Creek Drive and ordered the clerk to empty the cash register. The men then fled the area in a vehicle in a white Hummer.

Seymour police notified surrounding police departments about the robbery, reported at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. At about 3 a.m., a robbery was reported at the Ricker’s gas station at 3545 West County Road 450S. The suspects in that incident matched the description of those involved in the Seymour robbery, police said.

After receiving information about the Seymour and Columbus robberies, Trooper Kory Clark spotted the white Hummer in the area of Interstate 65 and State Road 46 at Columbus. That set off a pursuit on Interstate 65 that wound up on the south side of Indianapolis.

Police are still actively searching the area of Stop 12 and Madison Avenue. Police have recovered one handgun at the scene.

The first suspect is described as a white male approximately 6′ tall wearing a black hooded sweatshirt or jacket and black face mask.
The second suspect is described as a black male, 5’7″-5’9″ wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants with white tennis shoes and wearing a red knit hat.
The third suspect is a black male approximately 5’5″-5’7″ wearing all black with a knit hat with red and white stripes and wearing gloves with red stripes.
The suspects are considered armed and dangerous, if located please call 911 immediately.
