ATHENS, Ga. — Two Athens-Clarke County police officers have been injured after an altercation with an escaped felon who they were trying to arrest.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2pZHbib ) officers received a call Tuesday that 43-year-old Marvin Terrell Taylor was in the store he had shoplifted worth of items from last year, resulting in his incarceration.

Lt. Christopher Nichols and Senior Police Officer Gregory Gilchrist cornered Taylor at the store, but he got by the officers. Gilchrist shot Taylor with a Taser gun. Taylor pulled the electrical wires from his body, and a struggle ensued in the bushes outside. Nichols suffered fractures to a finger and Gilchrist injured an elbow.

Taylor faces shoplifting and obstruction charges and was served with the felony escape warrant. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
