Drinking-water survey planned

The Indiana Geological Survey, an Indiana University research institute, will use a $1.63 million grant from the Indiana Finance Authority to sample drinking water in more than 700 public schools in Indiana.

During the next 18 months, Survey officials will coordinate the voluntary sampling program with 120WaterAudit, an Indiana-based water testing service, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the finance authority and schools. Teams led by Indiana Geological Survey research hydrologist Sally Setsinger will travel throughout the state collecting samples from drinking fountains, sinks and other fixtures.

Lab measurements will compare results to Environmental Protection Agency data, which will be analyzed and summarized in a report to the state.
