Cougars advance to sectional finals

CAMPBELLSBURG

The reigning West Washington Sectional champions will get their shot at a repeat.

Behind senior Jake Moore’s no-hitter, the Cougars defeated Orleans 5-0 in the sectional semifinals Thursday.

Moore threw all seven innings and finished with 11 strikeouts. While the Cougars (13-8) didn’t commit an error, two hit-by-pitch tosses by Moore had him come up just short of a perfect game.

Trinity scored one run in the second inning and two in each of the sixth and seventh innings in the win.

Ross Kruse scored on an Orleans error in the second to give the Cougars the early lead.

Following singles by Kendall White and Sam Crick, Chandler Reynolds hit a two-RBI single to center field to extend the Cougars’ advantage to 3-0.

Jake VonDielingen led off with a double to center field before a pair of walks loaded the bases in the seventh inning.

With a two-RBI single line drive to center, Crick helped boost the Cougars’ lead to 5-0.

Trinity finished with seven hits, led by two each from Crick and VonDielingen.

On Monday, the Cougars will play Crothersville (3-17) in the championship game at 6 p.m.

In the regular season, Trinity defeated Crothersville 21-3 in five innings.
