MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Public Health says it has let go James Talton, who was recently hired as public health administrative officer.

Talton is the former director of the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, which fired him in 2014 for neglect of duty.

ADPH, in a statement, confirmed its decision to terminate Talton’s employment, effective Thursday.

WSFA-TV (http://bit.ly/2sZ1Fc6 ) reports Republican State Rep. Barry Moore of Enterprise called out the head of ADPH for exercising a “severe lack of judgment” for hiring Talton. Moore’s letter to State Health Officer Tom Miller expressed his frustration at the hiring and he posted it on the social media site, Facebook, Thursday morning, asking Miller to reconsider the decision.

Miller has said Talton was a “good fit” for the job based on his experience.
