DENVER — Police believe they have found the body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing during a heavy rainstorm north of Denver.

Thornton Police spokesman Matt Barnes says investigators believe the body found Thursday is that of Kiaya Campbell, but they waiting for a positive identification.

The Denver Post reports the girl was last seen during a storm Wednesday night when she became separated from a 15-year-old boy who was walking near her father’s house. Barnes says the boy started running, and the girl did not follow.

Authorities were concerned Kiaya may have been swept away in a flash flood and were searching street culverts and drainage ditches. They called off the search Thursday afternoon and cordoned off the area where the body was found.
