A local veterans organization plans to celebrate the nation’s flag Wednesday at One Chamber Square in Seymour.

The Flag Day program, put together by American Legion Post 89 in Seymour, will begin at 11 a.m. at 105 S. Chestnut St.

The ceremony will include the replacement of the old American flag with a new one.

There also will be a presentation about the history of the flag from the yellow-and-black “Don’t Tread on Me” banner to the present Stars and Stripes flag. The flag history will be presented by Seymour Elks Lodge 462.

After the program, the legion will provide a free picnic lunch for Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce members. The lunch is not open to the public, and chamber members must register beforehand at seymourchamber.com. The menu for the picnic is grilled hamburger or brat, chips, a cookie and a drink.
