MONTGOMERY, Ala. — An Alabama corrections officer has been arrested on charges he tried to bring mobile phones and drugs into a state prison.

The Department of Corrections says Vintarius Cardel Tarver resigned after being arrested Sunday.

The department says Tarver had mobile phones and phone chargers, marijuana and other drugs in his possession when he reported for work at Bullock Correctional Facility.

He was arrested on charges of promoting contraband in a state prison, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and using his position for personal gain.

It wasn’t clear from court records if Tarver has an attorney.
