Mary Magdalene Purvis, 96, of Medora passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017, at IU Health Bedford Indianapolis.

Born March 17, 1921, in Medora, she was the daughter of James F. and Sarah Jones Shelton, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was a member of Medora Pentecostal Church. She retired from Talon in Seymour, working there for 22 years. She loved working in flowers.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Becky) Zirkel and Leonard Gardner, all of Medora; three daughters, Nancy McKinney of Brownstown, Patty Anderson Hensley and Teresa (Mike) Brewer, all of Medora; a daughter-in-law, Frances Zirkel of Brownstown; 12 grandchildren, Jim (Tracy) McKinney, Bob McKinney, Bill (Jessica) McKinney, Jennifer (Tom) Nicholson, Jerry Zirkel Jr., Lynn (Brad) Cowles, Forrest Zirkel, Ronnie S. Zirkel, Farrell Zirkel, Frank Zirkel, Seth (Carrie) Brewer and Michah (Buddy) White; 14 great-grandchildren, Joe McKinney, Beth (Stephanie) McKinney, Sarah (Jeff) Ollis, Johnny (Missy) McKinney, Josh McKinney, Heather (Daniel) Rice, Shelby Cowles (Jonathan Murdock), Wylan Cowles, Jessie Nicholson, Tyler Cowles, Veronica Ault, Merrie Zirkel Dover, Ava Brewer and Auggie Brewer; four great-great-grandchildren, Sutter McKinney, Brantly McKinney, Emma McKinney and Gavin Hall; many “unofficially adopted” children and grandchildren; and two sisters, Arvilla Johnson of Brownstown and Laverne Gorbett of Medora.

Besides her parents, she was proceeded in death by a son, Jerry Zirkel; a son-in-law, Ike McKinney; a great-granddaughter, Mary Magdalene Brewster; four brothers, Ben Shelton, James Shelton, Clayton Shelton and Genie Shelton; and a sister, Daisy Elliott.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Medora Pentecostal Church with Pastor Tim Gill and Bishop M.L. Walls officiating. Burial will be at Weddleville Cemetery, Medora.

Visitation will from from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Hague Funeral Home in Medora handled arrangements.
