AMES, Iowa — Authorities say a jury will resume deliberations Wednesday on the fate of an Ames woman accused of killing her husband.

Thirty-six-year-old Candace Cummings is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 21 shooting death of 36-year-old Harland “Jesse” Cummings. The jury heard closing arguments Monday and failed to reach a verdict Tuesday in Story County District Court in Ames.

Candace Cummings told investigators she killed her husband because of stress in their marriage and the years of abuse she’d suffered at his hands.
