PHILADELPHIA — Police have named and charged the stepfather of a 1-year-old boy found dead in a Philadelphia home with bruises and signs of sexual assault.

Police announced the charges last week, but only recently identified 24-year-old Saleem Salaam who is charged with murder, rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and other charges. His attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.

Police found the boy unresponsive in a south Philadelphia home on June 7. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Online court record show Salaam remained jailed Wednesday and faces a preliminary hearing June 21.
