Boys & Girls Club plans youth triathlon

The fifth annual Boys & Girls Club of Seymour Youth Triathlon starts at 8:30 a.m. June 24 at Seymour High School, 1350 W. Second St.

The event is open to boys and girls ages 6 through 14.

The cost is $35, and payment will be accepted on race morning. Checks should be made payable to Boys & Girls Club.

Registration can be done before the event at the club at 950 N. O’Brien St., Seymour; online at bgcyouthtriathlon.com; or the day of the event at 7:30 a.m. A prerace meeting will be at 8 a.m.

Ages 6 to 10 will swim 100 yards, bike 2 miles and run a half-mile. Ages 11 to 14 will swim 200 yards, bike 4 miles and run a mile.

The swim will be in the Seymour High School pool, and the bike and run will be on the streets surrounding the high school.

Participants will receive a race T-shirt, a postrace snack and a medal. Awards also will be presented to the top three finishers in the two age groups.

Practice swim dates are at 6 p.m. Tuesday and June 22, and riding the bike course will immediately follow on both days. Kids should bring their swimsuit, bike and helmet.

The day of the race, participants will be allowed to use flotation devices or life jackets for the swim and training wheels for the bike ride. Helmets are required for the biking portion.
