HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Police say a 53-year-old woman has been hit and killed by a car while crossing a Long Island highway.

Nassau County police haven’t released the name of the victim or the 69-year-old man who was driving the vehicle that struck her.

Police say the woman was crossing Sunrise Highway in Freeport around 10 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a westbound 1990 Ford Mustang.

Police say the collision was an accident.
