PARK RIDGE, N.J. — A New Jersey police sergeant has been charged with drunken driving after crashing his personal car into a tree.
Police say Vasili Pieratos’ blood alcohol level was measured at 0.19 after the crash in Park Ridge early Wednesday. That’s more than twice the legal limit.
Pieratos and another officer, who was a passenger, were able to get themselves out of the wrecked car. Police did not say if they were injured.
Pieratos is an 18-year veteran of the Ramsey police department. A phone number for him could not be located.
Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney said he cannot comment on personnel matters. He said the department will handle the matter in accordance with attorney general guidelines.
