PATERSON, N.J. — Authorities say a fire that destroyed a business spread to a nearby apartment building, displacing 18 residents.

No injuries were reported in the fire that broke out late Friday morning in Paterson. But the cause of the blaze remained under investigation Saturday.

Authorities say the fire started in a liquor store on Lyon Street and eventually spread to the attic of the apartment building on River Street.

It took nearly four hours for dozens of firefighters to bring the blazes under control.

The displaced residents were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
