WILMINGTON, Del. — More than 850 dogs and cats have found new homes after a mass adoption event.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports (http://delonline.us/2soWnaJ ) that many animal lovers waited several hours in line to adopt at an event organized by the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

Brandywine SPCA spokeswoman Linda Torelli said her group was not expecting such a robust turnout and was thankful many people were willing to wait so long.

The event continues Sunday at Bellevue State Park.
