BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Police say a young boy riding a scooter was struck by a car and killed in Alabama’s largest city.

Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/2sOyQ5L ) that the 8-year-old was killed Sunday afternoon in an east Birmingham neighborhood.

Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton said he riding a scooter when he was struck.

He was taken to Children’s of Alabama hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed.
