ST. LOUIS — Authorities say a St. Louis standoff that started with two women being shot ended with the discovery of two people dead and another person wounded.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( ) reports that police responded around noon Sunday after the initial shooting. The two wounded women were taken to a hospital and weren’t immediately able to tell officers what happened.

While officers were at the scene, more shots rang out from a neighboring apartment building. After using a bullhorn and sending in a robot, officers entered the building around 3:30 p.m. St. Louis Police Sgt. Brian McGlynn says the suspected shooter was among the two people found dead. A third female victim was taken to a hospital.

McGlynn says the victims appeared to be connected, although the motive wasn’t immediately known.
