JACKSON, Miss. — Authorities say a Mississippi man was killed and his wife was injured following an early morning shooting at a mobile home.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing says 25-year-old Cody A. Newell was found dead inside of his mobile home Sunday at 12:40 a.m. Authorities say Newell was shot with a handgun and was dead when the ambulance arrived.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/2sOycFl) a neighbor told 911 dispatchers that an assaulted woman had come to her house. Rushing says the woman was transported to the hospital for her injuries.

It’s unclear how long the couple lived at the residence, but Rushing says a preliminary search showed that there were no calls to the home in previous years.

No charges have been filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
