George Wayne “Bud” Gay Sr., 72, of Brownstown passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at his home.

Born Nov. 3, 1944, in Surprise, he was the son of George and Avis Anderson Gay. On July 15, 1966, at Tampico Baptist Church, he married the love of his life, Shirley Mantz.

He graduated from Cortland High School in 1962. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country until 1966. He went to work for PSI, Duke Energy in 1965 and worked there as a lineman until he retired in 1999. He was a member of Surprise Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening, but those who knew him or visited his home knew his real passion was woodworking.

Others survivors besides his wife of almost 51 years include daughters, Christina (Mike) Ritz of Vallonia, Kimberly (Tedd) Stucker of Brownstown and Kerri (Donny) Allman of Brownstown; siblings, John (Peggy) Gay of Seymour, Jean (Lloyd) Meyer of White Creek and Nancy Lucas of Seymour; sister-in-law, Lena Gay of Seymour; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Wayne Gay Jr.; brothers, Tom Gay and Bill Gay; and brother-in-law, Russell Lucas.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour with Pastor Rick Grant officiating. Burial will be at Acme Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
