Naomi Ruth Marksberry, 87, of North Vernon passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Nineveh, she was the daughter of John C. and Minnie Pearl Hines Rockey, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Cecil Marksberry, who also preceded her in death.

She was the sexton of Hillcrest Cemetery along with her husband for 40 years. She had been attending Scipio United Methodist Church and was a member of Coffee Creek Conservation Club. She dearly loved spending time and talking with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo and going to casinos.

Survivors include her sons, David Rockey and Melvin, Larry and Rick Marksberry, all of North Vernon; daughters, Donna “Susie” Gaines of North Vernon, Brenda Smith of Berne and Peggy Meadows of Brownstown; sisters, Delores “Bill” Dixon, Marilyn Brown, Wilma Grider and Edna Ernstes, all of North Vernon; a brother, Joe Rockey of Ohio; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruthann Marksberry.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Sherman Beville officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
