A truck driver died early Tuesday morning after his truck hit an Indiana Department of Transportation truck on Interstate 65 at U.S. 50, police report.

The wreck, reported at about 12:30 a.m., left both southbound lanes of the interstate closed for about six hours causing traffic to back up to between the 64- and 68-mile-markers, Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said.

Wheeles, public information officer with the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles, said the interstate was expected to reopen about 7 a.m.

During the cleanup, traffic was rerouted on to southbound U.S. 31 at Walesboro to U.S. 50 at Seymour and then back on the interstate.

The family of the driver has been notified, Wheeles said.
