Ida Joan Ferguson, 83, of Freetown died Sunday, June 25, 2017, at her home.

Born Feb. 18, 1934, in Freetown, she was the daughter of Wayne and Lora Beatson Goble, both of whom preceded her in death. On May 29, 1954, in Freetown, she married Bob Ferguson, and he preceded her in death April 10, 2004.

She was a member of Freetown United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for many years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. Ida lived by the words in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” She loved music, cooking for family, reading, gardening, working in her flowers and adored her grand-dog, Willie. She graduated from Freetown High School in 1952. She worked as an executive secretary at Arvin Industries Inc., was a homemaker, assisted her husband at Ferguson’s Photography and then retired from the U.S. Post Office at Freetown.

Survivors include her four children, Brian (Robin) Ferguson of Norman, Jaffrey Ferguson of Freetown, Juli (Dale) Sechrest of Columbus and John (Melinda) Ferguson of Freetown; six grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Ferguson, Scott (Meghan) Ferguson, Andrew Sechrest, and Clayton, Kyle and Carson Ferguson; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Keller of Shelbyville.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Naomi Fields, Anna Mae Manuel and Ruth Reedy.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Freetown United Methodist Church with Dave Ison officiating. Burial will be at Freetown Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the church.
