EAU CLAIRE, Wis.

The Rev. Richard O. Goins, 85, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, in Vernal, Utah, while returning from a visit to his granddaughter’s graduation in Boise, Idaho. His wife and family members were at his side.

Born and raised in Seymour, he was the son of Mildred and Luther Goins. In 1957 at First Baptist Church in Seymour, he married Eila Ruth, daughter of Robert and Ruby Taylor.

He had been actively involved in First Baptist Church of Seymour and Boy Scouts, earning both his Eagle Scout and God and Country.

He graduated from Franklin College in Franklin and enlisted in the Navy, serving for four years. He attended Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, graduating in 1961. During his ministry, he served six churches in Indiana and First Baptist of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was on the staff of the Indiana Baptist Convention as an area minister and minister of camping and on the staff of the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountain Region as an area minister and world mission support.

Other survivors include four daughters, Kathi, Kimberly, Sallie and Susan; three sons-in-law; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Goins of Bloomington; Stephen Goins of Seymour and Donn (Russ) Goins of Clarksville, Tennessee; and a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life will be July 29 at First Presbyterian Church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. A time has not yet been set.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice of charity.
