Lorene Otting, 84, of Seymour passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center.

Born Sept. 12, 1932, in Sneedville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Daniel Boone and Clara Belle Miser Horton, both of whom preceded her in death. On Feb. 7, 1954, at Junction City, Kansas, she married Donald A. Otting, who preceded her in death Jan. 30, 1995.

She graduated from Clearspring High School in 1950. She attended Franklin College and Seymour Business College in Indiana and also attended Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. She began her professional work life as a private legal stenographer for Judge Gossman.

As a businesswoman, she owned and operated two boutique apparel shops in Brownstown and Bedford. She managed the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ Brownstown License Branch and owned many business and farm properties in Jackson, Washington and Jennings counties.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Jonesville and Clearspring Baptist Church. She enjoyed her life as a farm owner and operator and was avid in her attention to her garden, fruit trees and flowers.

She thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to travel to many countries around the world. Her travels took her to Europe, China, Australia, the Caribbean, Cuba, Fiji and Canada.

Survivors include her children, Avril Celeste (David) Prusha, Sherry Dawn (Brian) Richards and David Arthur(Rhonda) Otting; grandchildren, Brandon Delp, Blayne Delp, Blair Richards, Leah Richards, Zodie Otting and Zori Otting; her great-grandchild, Arthur Richards; her brother, Dr. Dan (Helen) Horton; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald F. Otting, and her half sisters, Isabelle Lynch, Mossy Watson and Alice Williams.

The funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Burial will beat St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Jonesville.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of service.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran High School, Lutheran Central School or the American Heart Association.
