HELENA, Mont. — A 7-year-old boy has drowned in a lake at a Montana state park on the western edge of Helena.

Lewis and Clark County sheriff’s Capt. Alan Hughes says the boy’s father reported him missing Friday evening at Spring Meadow Lake State Park after searching for him for 45 minutes.

Deputies searched for another 30 minutes before a swimmer saw or felt something in the water. A search and rescue crew brought the boy to shore, but efforts to resuscitate him failed.

Coroner Bryan Backeberg identified the boy as Damiean Xhavier Terrio of Helena.

A preliminary investigation did not indicate anything suspicious in the boy’s death.
