SAN JOSE, Calif. — Police are searching for a person who fatally shot a woman inside a house near California State University.

The Mercury News reports (http://bayareane.ws/2tpE7Pb ) officers went to the house on Monday to investigate reports of “loud bangs” coming from inside.

Officers entered the home and found a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Police say she died at the scene.

Neighbors say they knew only men to be officially living at the house, and police say the woman is believed to have been shot by a man she knew.

The victim’s name was not yet released on Tuesday.

The shooting death marked the 15th homicide of the year in San Jose, compared with 25 homicides at the same point in 2016.
