LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. — Officials in southern New Jersey are investigating a boat fire that seriously injured two people.

Asbury Park Press reports (http://on.app.com/2tfK9Dt ) a 23-foot power boat caught fire as it entered the Great Bay around 1:15 p.m. Monday.

State police say an explosion in the engine compartment caused the fire.

Four people were on the boat at the time of the fire.

Authorities say one victim was treated for burns at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Another victim who sustained burns was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.

State police say the fire doesn’t seem suspicious.
