BOSTON — Police say a young man was killed and a teenager hospitalized after a shooting in Boston.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says officers were stationed in the area when they heard several gunshots around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Officers found one man and a 14-year-old boy within several yards of each other.

The boy was shot in the foot and transported to a hospital, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Evans says the shooting appears to be targeted and gang-related. He says the volume of violent crimes has increased over the past week.
