LUDLOW, Mass. — Authorities have identified the three members of a family who died in a house fire in western Massachusetts earlier this week.

The Hampden District Attorney’s office says 82-year-old Alfred Alves, his 78-year-old wife Carol Alves and their 50-year-old son Darren Alves died Tuesday when flames swept the home on Newbury Street in Ludlow.

Investigators have said the fire started in an air conditioning unit in the living room.
