JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Police in a North Carolina town are looking for help in their investigation into the death of a former sheriff’s detective.

Local media outlets report the body of 48-year-old Will Clifton, a former detective with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, was found last Friday at a Jacksonville park located behind an elementary school.

Clifton was a sergeant with the sheriff’s office, but resigned on Feb. 15, 2016, after nine years on the force.

Specifically, investigators with the Jacksonville Police Department are looking for information on vehicles that were in the vicinity of the shooting. Police are calling the case a death investigation.
