CHANDLER, Ariz. — The father of a 3-year-old Chandler girl who died after being shot in the abdomen last month has been arrested in suspicion of manslaughter.

Chandler police say 33-year-old Eric Sands was re-booked into jail Tuesday. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.

Sands’ daughter was shot June 29 and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say Sands gave two different versions of what happened when interviewed.

Court documents show Sands originally told police he was cleaning a shotgun in a bedroom when his daughter bumped into him.

But Sands later said he wasn’t cleaning the shotgun and had placed it on a bed when it discharged.

Police now say physical evidence indicates the fatal wound was caused by the reckless mishandling of the shotgun by Sands.
