ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A New York state trooper seriously injured in an accident on an upstate highway last spring has been released from a Rochester hospital.
Craig Foglia left Strong Memorial Hospital Wednesday as fellow troopers, hospital staff and emergency crews applauded.
The 14-year veteran was patrolling Interstate 86 on May 17 when he pulled over a vehicle near Exit 42 in the Steuben (stoo-BEHN’) County town of Campbell, about 70 miles (113 kilometers) south of Rochester.
Authorities say he was sitting in his trooper car parked on the highway shoulder when his vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup driven by a 78-year-old New Jersey man.
Foglia was listed in critical condition when he was admitted to the hospital.
He was working out of the trooper station at Painted Post when the accident occurred.
