MESA, Ariz. — The Latest on a fatal rollover wreck in the Phoenix area (all times local):
The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the two people killed in a rollover wreck on a Phoenix-area highway were the man driving the vehicle and a female passenger.
DPS spokesman Quentin Mehr says the age of the passenger killed in the wreck early Thursday morning on State Route 87 north of Mesa isn’t immediately available so it’s not known if she was an adult or a juvenile.
The DPS initially said three people were injured and taken to a hospital on critical condition, but Mehr says the latest information is that their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.
Another person was released from a different hospital after being treated.
The wreck resulted in the closure of SR 87’s northbound lanes at Gilbert Road for about five hours after the wreck occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m.
Northbound State Route 87 has reopened following a Phoenix-area rollover wreck that authorities say left two people dead and three others critically injured.
Northbound lanes of the highway that is the main link between the Phoenix area and Payson were closed at Gilbert Road north of Mesa during cleanup and investigation of the single-vehicle wreck early Thursday morning.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, initial reports indicate the vehicle was southbound before the driver lost control for unknown reasons and the vehicle then crossed the center median and rolled.
Southbound SR 87 remained open.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the single-vehicle wreck early Thursday morning has closed northbound SR 87 at Gilbert Road.
