SCHELLVILLE, Calif. — Officials say a single-engine plane carrying four passengers crashed in Sonoma County shortly after takeoff, killing one person and injuring three others.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department says the Cirrus SR22 crashed Thursday afternoon in a rural field near the Sonoma Skypark Airport.

It says the three injured passengers were flown to nearby hospitals.

The Federal Aviation Administration says two of its inspectors are on their way to the crash site about 1,000 feet west of the airport.

The FAA says the NTSB will assist in the investigation.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports two of the injured passengers are children. They were flown by helicopter to the Children’s Hospital in Oakland.
