HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Police in New Jersey say an 87-year-old pedestrian has been killed in a crash.

NJ.com reports (http://bit.ly/2vsPsxo ) John Crowley was struck by a trailer after entering a lane on state Route 29 in Hopewell Township Sunday afternoon. Police say the Hopewell man was hit by a trailer being towed by the truck after the driver tried avoiding him.

Crawley was rushed to a local hospital where he died.

Police say they are not sure why Crawley entered traffic. Investigators say Crawley was walking along the shoulder of the roadway with his wife before the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
