Brownstown ready to head back to school

Brownstown Central Community School Corp. students in grades kindergarten through 12 will report to their respective buildings at 8:15 a.m. Aug. 8, Superintendent Greg Walker recently announced.

Preschoolers also will report for the first time that day, and bus transportation for those students will begin that day.

Brownstown Elementary School will be having a back-to-school celebration for students and parents from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 3.

Brownstown Central Middle School will be having orientation and open house for sixth grade from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and for seventh and eighth grades from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3. Parents/guardians must accompany their students but can come any time between 6:30 and 8 p.m.

Brownstown Central High School has scheduled an open house and freshman orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The first day for vocational classes at Bedford will be Aug. 10.

Student insurance

Student insurance will not be offered in 2017-18.

Parents who wish may deposit money into their child(s) lunch account and/or pay for textbook rental and fees via credit card by using e~Funds for Schools.

Health services

All students entering kindergarten and those entering first grade who did not attend kindergarten are required to provide results of dental, optical and physical examinations, an up-to-date immunization record and a copy of their birth certificate.

No child shall be permitted to attend school after the first day without a written statement that the child has received the required immunizations unless the school gives parents a waiver or the school receives a physician statement with reasons for delay in immunization.

Any parent or guardian who does not have the required forms may pick them up at the elementary school office. Parents or guardians with further questions may consult school nurse Joyce McKinney or refer to the corporation website under the Community and the Health Services tab.

New students

All pupils attending school in the corporation for the first time are required to submit evidence of immunizations and to present birth certificates, which will be copied and made a part of the student’s school record.

Meal costs

Meal prices will be $2.60, high school; $2.45, middle school; and $2.30, elementary. At all schools, milk will be 60 cents and $1.25 for breakfast.

Textbook rental information

Textbook rental prices $42, preschool; $91, kindergarten; $87, first grade; $80, second grade; $70, third grade; $67, third grade HE; $76, fourth grade; $78, fourth grade HE; $99, fifth grade; and $114, fifth grade HE.

Middle school and high school students pay book rental based on 25 percent of the purchase cost of textbooks. Some classes also have a fee assessed for equipment and supplies.
