The Weddleville Old Settlers Bean Dinner will be Aug. 19 at historic Carr High School, 10059 W. County Road 250S, Medora.

The free community meal will feature open-fire cooked beans, cornbread, coleslaw and dessert. Anyone planning to attend also can bring their favorite pitch-in dinner dish.

A raffle will be conducted for two cemetery plots, a $200 value. Tickets are $5 each.

Historically, the old settlers of the Pea Ridge area conducted a homecoming picnic on the third Saturday in August, according to a news release from Weddleville Cemetery Association.

The association has revived this tradition with a free bean dinner and pitch-in at the high school, 5 miles west of Medora on County Road 250S.

Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a day in the country and visit with friends, old and new. An update will be given about the restoration progress and ongoing maintenance on of the last standing pre-Civil War high schools in Indiana, placed on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 15, 2011, and plans for its use by the community.
