VOLLEYBALL

Hornets fall to Lions

SALEM

Medora fell to Salem 25-10, 25-16, 25-14 in their 2017 opener Saturday morning.

The Hornets were 37 of 51 with seven kills on hitting, and went 36-for-41 for serves with two aces.

Kailen Flynn had 16 hits and five kills and Katie Beesley served-up both aces.

Medora (0-1) plays at Christian Academy of Indiana tonight.

Tigers drop pair

SCOTTSBURG

Crothersville fell to Scottsburg, 25-10, 25-8, 25-10, and to Switzerland County, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21, in a season-opening tri-match Saturday.

Maddie Riley led the Tigers with 27 hits and five kills against Switzerland County while Makayla Helt went 10-for-10 serving against the host school.

The Tigers (0-2) play at Southern Athletic Conference foe Borden tonight.

GIRLS GOLF

Owls 6th, Braves 7th

HENRYVILLE

Both Brownstown Central and Seymour competed in the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Champions Pointe Golf Club.

Seymour placed sixth by scoring 370 strokes while the Braves finished right behind (376) in the 11-team field.

Evansville North won the invite via a fifth-golfer tiebreaker over Columbus North, as both teams shot 306.

Columbus North’s Dambi Kim was individual medalist, carding a 2-under-par 72.

Bridget Marshall led the Owls with an 88, Laken Waskom and Madeleine Wilser both shot 93s, Bailey Goben shot 96 and Andrea Axsom rounded-out the five with 97.

Emma Zabor topped the Braves’ scorecard with an 88; followed by Regan Campbell (93), Shelby Stuckwisch (95), KaCee Collins (100) and Ashlyn Fox (114).
