County student honored at Indiana State University

Victoria Mahoney of Seymour is one of 10 freshmen at Indiana State University in Terre Haute to receive the Sycamore Teacher Leader Scholarship.

The scholarships provide first-year students with full in-state tuition for four years and an additional $3,000 professional development account, according to a news release from the university.

Recipients are part of the Bayh College of Education who intend to major in elementary, secondary or special education. Recipients were selected based on high academic achievement, leadership, service and desire to become a high-quality educator.

Mahoney, who is studying music education, participated in marching band, concert band and show choir at Seymour High School. She also was a member of National Honor Society and archery club and helped with her church youth group.

Mahoney also is one of 200 students in the state awarded the Next Generation Teacher Scholarship, and she also was awarded a performance scholarship to sing for the university.
