Charles Edward Gudgel, 73, of Commiskey, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center. He was born on September 9, 1943, in Jennings County, to the late Charles M. Gudgel and Pauline (Bannister) Shields.

On January 8, 1963, he married Violet Peacock, she survives. He was a member of Coffee Creek Christian Church. He enjoyed being outdoors camping, fishing, and squirrel and mushroom hunting. He especially loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Violet; children, Eddie Gudgel, Sheila (Steve) Nolen, Paula (Michael) Brown, Michael Gudgel, Alan (Denise) Gudgel, and Andy (Ashley) Gudgel; grandchildren, Robert Gudgel, Addie Roll, Dustin Nolen, Brandon Nolen, Heather Lewis, Theron Jones, Joshua Gudgel, Jonathon Gudgel, and Andi Gudgel; half brothers, Thomas Gudgel and Raymond Derringer; sister, Marilyn Bush; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father; mother; brothers, Curtis ‘Bill’ Gudgel and Duane Gudgel; half brother, Melvin Gudgel; and step father, Willis E Shields.

Funeral services will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday, September 8, at 1 pm, with Rev.Damon Marlin officiating. Burial will follow at Coffee Creek Christian Church Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday. September 7 from 4-8 pm and on Friday from 12 noon until time of service.
