SEATTLE — A teenager who was fatally stabbed in West Seattle Tuesday has been identified.

The Seattle Times reported Wednesday ( ) family members say Derek “Peachy” Juarez-Lopez was a 15-year-old poet who wrote about steering away from gangs and the importance of getting an education.

Family members say Juarez-Lopez died Tuesday afternoon during a second surgery at Harborview Medical Center, six hours after he was stabbed in the heart and abdomen by unknown assailants at Westcrest Park.

His sister, Italia Juarez-Lopez, says her brother called her after the incident, telling her he got jumped, was stabbed and was bleeding.

No one has been arrested.

Police are investigating and asking anyone with information about the case to call 206-233-5000.
