A male driver died in a single-car accident at 7 a.m. Friday on County Road 330W, north of County Road 450N, in northwestern Bartholomew County.

The victim was identified as Jeffrey Henson, 53, of North Vernon, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said.

Henson died from blunt force trauma to his chest and thoracic cavity, Nolting said.

The car accident was reported by a passing motorist, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies said.

County Road 330W goes along the Flatrock River as it goes south toward 450N on the west side of Interstate 65.

Investigators said it appeared Henson’s PT Cruiser went off the road and hit a drainage embankment before rolling over on its top, deputies said.

Deputies said speed was not considered a factor and investigators said they do not believe Henson was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.

Family members told investigators that Henson worked long hours as a heating and air conditioning employee and was in his work clothes when the accident occurred, Nolting said.
