Two area residents were arrested Saturday after marijuana and methamphetamine were located during a traffic stop on U.S. 31 near the Jackson County line with Scott County, police reported.

The driver of the vehicle, Katrina Lynn Ballard, 39, of Scottsburg and passenger Christopher Edward Williams, 24, of Vallonia, were arrested on charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles.

Wheeles, public information officer with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post, said the investigation began at about 10 p.m. Saturday when Trooper Tia Deaton conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet S-10 being driven south on U.S. 31 near County Road 700S in Jackson County.

During the stop, Deaton conducted a search of the vehicle because of the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. She reported finding marijuana, drug paraphernalia and approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine during the search.

Ballard and Williams were booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where they remained Tuesday morning pending initial hearings in Jackson Circuit Court.

Officers with the Crothersville Police Department assisted with the investigation and arrests.
