James Donald Denney, 79, of Brownstown, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Denney was a long distance truck driver and an engineer fireman for the Santa Fe Railroad in Gallup, New Mexico. Railroad was his true passion. He also enjoyed fishing and loved his dog, Chemo.

Born on February 11, 1938, in Somerset, Kentucky, he was the son of Herman and Martha J. (Logston) Denney, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1955, he married Martha Ann Smith and she preceded him in death. Subsequent thereto, he married Sara Branaman and she also preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, James (Mary) David Denney of Indianapolis, Jason Derrick Denney of Brownstown, and Terry “TJ” (Nancy) Gieseking of Kankakee, Illinois; three daughters, Debra Green of Indianapolis, Terry Ann (Mark) Fish of Brownstown and Chrystal Sue Denney of Brownstown; one sister, Louise Young of Indianapolis; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Denney was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Eileen) Denney; and three sisters: Christine Epperson, Edith Gregory and Virginia Anderson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
