SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. — A Vermont water utility has issued a conservation notice in several communities for most of the day Friday.

WCAX-TV reports ( ) that a broken part at the Champlain Water District’s Water Treatment Plant is preventing the plant from pumping out water. The district is now relying on storage tanks.

The plant’s general manager Jim Fay is asking residents to use only necessary water from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. He asks residents to refrain from washing their cars, watering the garden or running the dishwasher during the six-hour period.

Communities affected include South Burlington, Essex, Colchester, Williston, Shelburne, Winooski, Milton and Jericho Village.
