A 57-year-old man who sustained numerous injuries in a wreck over the weekend on Seymour’s east side died Monday at Indianapolis, police report.

James S. Hinton of Seymour died at a hospital where he was taken for treatment after the wreck reported at 1 p.m. Saturday at U.S. 31 and U.S. 50, according to a report from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police.

Wheeles said Hinton was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro west on U.S. 50 when Justin L. Gudgel, 19, also of Seymour, turned from the left turn lane of U.S. 31 into path of Hinton’s car..

As result of the crash, Hinton’s car went off the road and down an embankment before stopping, while Gudgel’s 1998 Jeep Cherokee came to rest in the intersection, said Wheeles, who is the post’s public information officer.

Hinton was airlifted from the scene to an Indianapolis hospital by Lifeline after being treated by personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, while Gudgel was not injured, Wheeles said.

He said police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the wreck although toxicology results are pending.

An Indiana State Police crash reconstruction team continues to investigate the wreck.
