Lucas earns another honor

Jessica Lucas has notched her third Conference USA Setter of the Week nod in a row at Western Kentucky University

Lucas, of Seymour, averaged 11.23 assists per set against four opponents that appeared in last season’s NCAA Tournament.

The senior was named to the Buckeye Invite All-Tournament Team after she facilitated an offense that hit .364, and an ever sharper .506 in a 3-0 rout of tourney host No. 25 Ohio State.

A dependable 56.7 percent of her sets against the Buckeyes were killed by various Lady Toppers in the meeting.

Lucas also penned 13 kills, 32 digs and seven blocks to extend WKU’s win streak to nine matches.

Braves hosting charity drive

The Brownstown Central volleyball team will be conducting a food drive during its home match with Seymour on Sept. 26.

The Braves will be collecting items for the school food pantry and ask everyone bring one item or more.

Items needed include: shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap and non-perishable food items.
