KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police have arrested a person of interest in the shooting death of an off-duty Lee’s Summit police officer.

Police announced the arrest Wednesday in the Aug. 30 death of 30-year-old Thomas Alvin Orr III at a gathering at a Kansas City restaurant.

The suspect’s name and other details of the arrest were not released.

The police statement said the person was taken into custody during a separate investigation and became a suspect in Orr’s death as the first investigation progressed.

Orr was fatally shot at a day party at Californos restaurant in Westport. Police said Orr was not the intended target and was shot during an argument between other people.

Orr was with the Lee’s Summit police since March 2015. He previously was an officer in Marshall.
