PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The city of Providence has reached a settlement with a former bouncer of a closed nightclub who says she was assaulted by a police officer in 2012.
WPRI-TV reports that the City Council Claims Committee voted on Tuesday to approve a $48,000 settlement with Kali Reis. Reis had previously filed a federal lawsuit against the city in 2015.
Reis alleged in the lawsuit that a now-retired police officer punched, pepper sprayed and handcuffed her when she tried to give her unconscious coworker first aid after a fight in the club. Reis claimed the officer used excessive force and the department failed to properly train its employees.
Reis was not charged with a crime.
